Anaheim, CA (July 5, 2004) - On Thursday, July 8, 2004, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., Emerald Court senior living in Anaheim will host the grand opening of their new Healthy Strides fitness center, for residents and their families. Healthy Strides is a comprehensive wellness program that promotes successful aging through strategies that enhance the mind, body and spirit.
The centerpiece of the Healthy Strides program is the fitness center featuring Keiser strength training equipment. Here under the guidance of Emerald Court assistant healthy strides director Ben Davis, residents will be encouraged to counteract muscle weakness and physical frailty by participating in strength training regimens. Davis, who holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Science from the University of Idaho, will assess individual residents' capabilities and design sessions to be supervised by a certified, professional staff.
The Healthy Strides program also includes ongoing seminars and sessions, including creative arts, spirituality, music appreciation, gardening, book club, nutrition classes, pet therapy, gardening, weight management, assistance with smoking cessation, Tai Chi, relaxation and massage therapy and support groups.
"Wellness is an intentional lifestyle choice," says Emerald Court marketing director, Darleen Yee, "When people commit to a wellness program, they take personal responsibility for their own health. At Emerald Court, we hope Healthy Strides will support that commitment through a whole-person health philosophy that will enrich the lives of our residents."
Emerald Court is owned and operated by Kisco Senior Living of Carlsbad, Calif. Recognizing the life-changing benefits people enjoy when they embrace holistic wellness, Healthy Strides was created in collaboration with Montague, Eippert and Associates of Highland Heights, Ky., a consulting firm specializing in older adult wellness. The pilot program debuted at Abbotswood at Irving Park in Greensboro, N.C. in August 2000. The program ultimately will be offered at each Kisco location.
According to Emerald Court executive director Jim Karsch, "Longevity studies have shown that people age more successful by incorporating wellness concepts and beliefs into all aspects of their lives. Healthy Strides is an innovative program developed to help our residents and their families live longer with a higher quality of life. The program offers more than exercise. It brings a new lifestyle perspective, an optimistic outlook, and a can-do attitude."
