Thousands of families in Mexico live in substandard housing. But after this weekend, there are three fewer. More than 50 Kisco Senior Living associates and their families spent a December weekend in Tijuana, Mexico, building Homes for Hope.
The goal of Homes of Hope, a program of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), an interdenominational non-profit organization, is to build homes for the poorest of the poor. "To have the opportunity to help a needy family get something as basic as adequate shelter is indescribably rewarding," shared Kisco associate Jacqui Austin.
Kisco associates showed up bright and early Friday morning to build three homes. The homes are 16 x 20 feet and when complete, include a concrete slab, electrical wiring, interior sheet rock, roof, three windows and one door. Necessary tools, plans, site coordination, lumber, and materials were provided by YWAM, Kisco provided a financial contribution, and our associates provided the labor. An exercise in teamwork and cooperation, construction was complete by late Saturday afternoon.
Associates of Kisco Senior Living have built five homes in three years with Homes for Hope.
